Knowing your strengths is key in building a successful business. Because we are growing, learning new things and pushing ourselves to be our very best each step of the way, there is a lot of personal development interwoven in the entrepreneurial journey. Often times we are wearing all the hats; founder, accountant, marketing specialist, social media manager, etc and it can be hard to know where we are at our best. At some point in your business, investigating to determine where your expertise resides is crucial to truly growing and expanding into the best version of what you want to create. You are not here to be the jack of all trades!

One of the reasons it’s hard to hone in on our strengths is because of a certain mindset: if we can’t see the relation between generating revenue and our strengths we think they are not valid or important enough so we push ourselves to be better in areas where it seems like revenue will be generated more directly. As much as we want to have clear financial goals and be able to sustain ourselves, we also need to tap into our strengths if we want long term growth and success. One of the most important lessons in business is knowing that results often come a while after we’ve taken action or from areas in which we didn’t expect. It’s not a do and receive kind of deal all the time.

There are some things that you are just amazing at and it’s your responsibility to figure out what they are so that you can serve people in the best way possible and also be happy. When we spend most of our time doing things that feed our soul and come naturally to us, we are the most fulfilled. Don’t be fooled and think that because money isn’t coming in directly from that specific strength that you shouldn’t be spending most of your time on it. In business, you always need to see the bigger picture and that often entails being at your best in the role you hold and bringing in others that are amazing in your weaker areas. That as a whole is what brings success.
